SAEDNEWS: dedicated to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, the founding president of the United Arab Emirates. Twelve leading architectural firms from ten different countries submitted designs for this landmark, and the winning entry was ultimately created by the renowned international architect Norman Foster and his team.
According to the Science Service of Saed News, the architectural concept of this building harmonizes contemporary forms with traditional Arab architecture while remaining environmentally friendly. Its design was inspired by the flight and wings of the falcon—a symbol of the United Arab Emirates and a reflection of Sheikh Zayed’s passion for falconry. The exceptional design, materials, and construction methods create a visually captivating environment with sweeping views of Saadiyat Island.
The exhibition space is perched atop a beautifully crafted artificial hill, with galleries arranged across five distinct zones. The building employs innovative passive cooling techniques, including thermal towers and solar chimneys, which naturally circulate air. Cool air is captured at lower levels and guided through underground ducts into the museum lobby. Open canopies atop the towers further assist in cooling the air. Lightweight metal structures complement the interior spaces, enhancing the building’s unforgettable architectural presence.
