Is Tehran No Longer the Capital? President Weighs Moving the Capital

According to Saed News, the President, in a meeting with members of Iran’s Reform Front, said: “There is no possibility for Tehran to continue as the capital.”

According to the political service of Saed News, the President, pointing to the fundamental challenges facing Tehran as the country’s capital, said: “From the first day of entering office, we have put forward proposals on the issue of transferring the capital, but instead of paying attention to realities, some began to criticize the government’s positions, whereas from a scientific and expert standpoint, there is no possibility for Tehran to continue as the capital.”

He went on to state: “Based on expert reports, land subsidence in some areas has reached 30 to 40 centimetres per year, and this constitutes a major disaster for the country.”
