Europe’s Quiet Complicity? Araghchi Denounces Brussels’ Response to US–Israeli Strikes

According to Saed News, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi castigated several European states on Saturday for what he described as a “dangerously biased” reaction to the recent 12‑day Israeli‑American offensive on Iranian soil. Speaking by telephone with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, Araghchi protested attempts by capitals such as Berlin to rationalize Israel’s “deadly and unprovoked” campaign—an intervention he says fatally undermines the United Nations Charter and erodes the rule of law.

Araghchi drew attention to a wider pattern of Washington‑backed operations in the region—ranging from targeted assassinations to missile strikes—that have “destabilized West Asia.” He recounted that during the June assault, Israeli forces attacked nuclear facilities and other strategic sites, leaving at least 1,100 Iranians dead, including senior officers, nuclear scientists, and civilians. In its closing phase, the United States struck additional enrichment plants at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.

While several European governments offered diplomatic cover for the aggressors, Switzerland—Cassis acknowledged—had recognized the illegality of the strikes and reaffirmed its commitment to de‑escalation. According to the Swiss minister, Bern stands ready to support renewed diplomatic channels aimed at a peaceful resolution.

Araghchi concluded by calling for a united international front to hold Israel and the United States accountable, arguing that only “a consistent application of international law” can prevent further bloodshed and restore stability to the region.
