SAEDNEWS: In a forceful message on X, Israel’s foreign minister demands that European signatories of the JCPOA reinstate UN sanctions on Iran—just days after Tehran suspended its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
According to Saed News, Gideon Sa’ar, Israel’s foreign minister, reacted sharply on Wednesday to Iran’s recent law mandating a suspension of all IAEA cooperation. The bill, fast‑tracked by Iran’s parliament and ratified by the Guardian Council in response to last week’s U.S. airstrike on its nuclear facilities, was officially enacted when President Masoud Pezeshkian signed it into law.
Under the new legislation, the Iranian government must halt all inspections, reporting, and data exchanges with the IAEA until Tehran receives guarantees for “the security of its nuclear sites and scientists.”
Sa’ar denounced the move as “a total abandonment of Iran’s international nuclear obligations” and insisted that Europe invoke the JCPOA’s “snap‑back” mechanism—reimposing every UN sanction that had been lifted under the deal. He warned that unless swift action is taken, “there can be no restraint on Iran’s nuclear ambitions.”
As the only undeclared nuclear power in West Asia, Israel has never joined the Nuclear Non‑Proliferation Treaty or any other global arms‑control convention. Sa’ar’s call underscores mounting tensions: just last week, an Israeli airstrike on Iran’s Natanz facility killed several civilians, including women and children, drawing fierce condemnation from Tehran.
With the IAEA now effectively locked out, international monitors and diplomats fear a rapid escalation in mistrust—and potential clandestine activity—at Iran’s key nuclear sites.
