SAEDNEWS: Tehran MP Blames Low Rainfall on Citizens’ Sins, Links Opposition to Hijab Law with Water Crisis
According to the political section of Saed News, Kamran Ghazanfari, Tehran’s representative in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, in an interview with ILNA news agency, responded to the president’s remarks on water shortages and the possibility of evacuating Tehran by claiming that the source of reduced rainfall and the “diminishing divine blessings” should be sought in “sins,” particularly the president’s opposition to the law on chastity and hijab. He stated: “By opposing the law on chastity and hijab, you have contributed to the spread of corruption and immorality across the country over the past year… Therefore, Mr. Pezeshkian, see the cause of low rainfall in your own sins.”
Ghazanfari’s comments are part of a broader wave of reactions to official warnings about water scarcity and discussions on potential rationing or even evacuating certain areas; domestic media and analysts have widely reported and reflected on his statements.
At the same time, legal experts and some journalists have criticized linking natural phenomena to social behavior or political stances. For instance, a lawyer wrote that there is no valid religious narrative or evidence establishing a causal connection between observing hijab and rainfall, describing such correlations as “incorrect religious judgment.”
