The Foreign Minister in Geneva, referring to the Zionist regime’s aggressions against our country, said: Any justification for this unjust and criminal war will mean participation in that crime.

Araghchi: Any Justification for This Unjust War is Participation In The Crime.

According to Mehr News Agency, Seyyed Abbas Araqchi said in a speech at the United Nations Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva:
I am the Foreign Minister of Iran, a peace-loving country that is the heir to one of the oldest human civilizations and has made a great contribution to civilization, culture, and human ethics. Today, this nation is the target of an aggressive and shameful act by a regime that, over the past two years, has committed horrific genocide in Palestine and occupied the lands of neighboring countries.

He added: I stand before this esteemed institution to remind that every member and observer of the Human Rights Council has a legal and moral duty to stand against this great injustice. The Israeli regime has launched an unprovoked aggression against Iran, which is a clear violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the United Nations Charter and a bold challenge to all the principles and rules upon which this council is built.

Araqchi continued: This is an unjust war imposed on my people since the dawn of Friday, June 13; a war in which Israel has carried out a series of illegal and criminal operations against non-combatant military personnel, university professors, and ordinary civilians.

The Iranian Foreign Minister stated: Hundreds of my compatriots have been killed or wounded following Israel’s surprise attacks and terrorist operations against residential areas, public infrastructure, hospitals, medical centers, and even the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He added: Our peaceful nuclear facilities have also been targeted, despite being under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and despite attacks on such facilities being completely prohibited under international law.

Iran defends itself against a brutal aggression

The head of Iran’s diplomatic apparatus said: Attacking nuclear facilities constitutes a major war crime, especially given the risk of environmental disaster and public health dangers caused by radioactive leakage.

Araqchi said: As a founding member of the United Nations system, Iran rightly expects each of you to stand for justice, the rule of law, and the fundamental principles of humanity and ethics. Iran is under ruthless aggression. This clear reality must not be distorted by Israel and its supporters.

He stated: Israel’s aggression against Iran cannot and should not be justified under any legal or ethical standard. Any justification for this unjust and criminal war means participation in that crime.

The Foreign Minister, stating that Iran defends itself against brutal aggression, added: We have the inherent right and duty to defend our territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and security with full power. This right is explicitly recognized in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

He said: Peace and the rule of law have been severely threatened as a result of Israel’s illegal invasion of Iran. Israel is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. International humanitarian law, which has already been severely weakened by Israel’s continuous crimes in occupied Palestine and elsewhere, now faces an even more serious threat as Israel flagrantly violates the Geneva Conventions of 1949.

The world must hold the perpetrators of these endless crimes in our region accountable

The Foreign Minister further reminded: We were attacked in the middle of a diplomatic process. On June 15, we were supposed to meet with the Americans to reach a very promising agreement to peacefully resolve the fabricated issues surrounding our peaceful nuclear program. This action was a betrayal of diplomacy and an unprecedented blow to the foundations of international law and the UN system.

Araqchi emphasized: Let me be frank, if the costly systems and mechanisms created over the past eight decades to protect human rights and dignity are to be used, now is the time. We need action; otherwise, the entire international legal system based on law will seriously erode.

He said: This is a historic moment for human civilization; when a civilized nation is subjected to an unjust and aggressive war. The world, every government, every institution and mechanism must wake up, act, stop the aggressor, end impunity, and hold accountable the perpetrators of these endless crimes in our region.

He added: These words come from someone who has devoted his entire life to dialogue and diplomacy but is also a survivor of the imposed war by the Saddam regime and knows how to defend his beloved homeland.
