Saed News: Cashew is actually a fruit produced by an evergreen tree.
According to the Society section of Saed News, quoting Khabar Fori, the true fruit of this tree contains the kernel, which is the edible part of the fruit. The fruit has a bean-like shape, with a relatively long and swollen end that contains the kernel. Once the fruit is fully ripened and harvested, the kernel must be separated from its shell before it can be sold.
The cashew kernel, which contains a high amount of fat, spoils quickly—its fat oxidizes when exposed to oxygen. Another name for cashew is “cashew fruit.”
Cashews grow in tropical regions. In fact, cashews are a type of fruit produced by an evergreen tree. This tree can also produce cashew apples and can grow up to 14 nautical miles in height.
Cashew seeds are harvested while they are still green and unripe. After harvesting—since the shell is not yet completely hardened—they are cut open with a knife to extract the kernel. The kernels are then soaked in turmeric water for a while to remove any harmful effects and make them safe to eat.
