The Haft Abshar-e Tirkon (Seven Waterfalls of Tirkon) is a collection of seven stepped waterfalls nestled in the lush forests of Lafur, in Mazandaran Province. This hidden paradise in northern Iran is located near the village of Tirkon, a part of Babol County.
The Seven Waterfalls of Tirkon are a lush green paradise among Mazandaran’s attractions. Today, I want to talk about where these waterfalls are and the best time to visit them—because it’s nature-travel season in the north of Iran! As the name suggests, the seven waterfalls of Savadkuh sit close to each other, with the tallest one reaching 9 meters. All of them flow into a single natural pool, and swimming in it is one of the best joys of summer.🌲💦📍🌞
The seven-tiered Tirkon Waterfalls are estimated to be around 40 million years old. As the name implies, it consists of seven beautiful waterfalls surrounded by dense forests. The tallest reaches 9 meters. However, they are not located right next to each other—you’ll need to hike and even do some climbing to see them all.
The surrounding forests are called Kalbekoosht, known for being among the most lush and beautiful pastures in northern Iran. Unfortunately, in recent years, pest infestations have damaged some of the plant species in this region.
Located in Babol County, Mazandaran Province, in the pristine Lafur Forest. It is accessible from cities like Savadkuh, Qaemshahr, and Babol. The nearest village is Tirkon, and to reach the waterfalls, a 3 km hike is needed.
Your route depends on where you’re coming from. From Tehran, take the Firuzkuh Road to Savadkuh and Shirgah, then to Babol and the village of Tirkon. You can also take Chalous Road or Haraz Road depending on preference. If you’re coming from cities in northeastern Iran (like Mashhad), head to Sari, then Qaemshahr, and finally to Tirkon village. From northwestern cities, take the coastal road from Mahmoudabad to Babol and follow signs to Tirkon.
Like much of northern Iran, the area is humid. Summer may not be ideal for everyone due to the humidity. Winters are snowy and icy, making the path slippery. In rainy seasons, the waterfalls swell, but it can be dangerous. Spring and early fall are the best times to visit.
You can visit any time of year, but early fall is ideal. Imagine walking through colorful trees with the soothing sound of waterfalls in the background. May is also a great time, especially if you're free from academic responsibilities.
Once in Babol, take the Padgan Road to Tirkon village. Then a 2-hour hike takes you to the waterfalls. Parking is available near the trailhead.
The waterfalls are not all close together. You’ll need to walk about 3 km to see all seven. If you get lost, you’ll end up exploring beautiful forest trails. To see all waterfalls efficiently, after reaching the first one, don’t cross the river—head left.
There’s more than just sightseeing! Enjoy activities like:
Spend a night under the stars if you have camping gear. Respect nature—no littering or fire.

This is also a great destination for mountain lovers. Be sure to pack proper shoes and clothes.
Visit in spring or summer. Bring water, extra clothes, and maybe even a towel for a dip. Since there's no cell signal in some spots, use offline maps. And most importantly, protect this nature for future generations. Avoid large campfires and littering. Always check the weather forecast before heading out.
