On September 9, 2025, Iran hosted the first trilateral political consultation with India and Uzbekistan, bringing together senior diplomats to discuss regional cooperation, trade, and security. The Iranian delegation was led by Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Director General for South Asia at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, while India was represented by Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary (PAI), and Uzbekistan by Gholamjon Primkulov, Head of Cooperation with South Asia, Near, Middle East, and Africa.

The three countries expressed satisfaction at the meeting and agreed to organize these consultations on a regular, annual basis, aiming to safeguard mutual interests and promote regional prosperity.

Key topics included expanding connectivity, leveraging strategic ports, and advancing the International North-South Transit Corridor (INSTC). The meeting also reviewed progress on decisions made during the third Chabahar Working Group meeting in Mumbai in November 2024, emphasizing trade development and cooperation on shared economic projects.

In addition to economic ties, the parties exchanged views on regional security and discussed mechanisms to enhance collaboration in combating extremism and terrorism, signaling a commitment to coordinated efforts for peace and stability in the region.

The trilateral talks highlight growing strategic partnerships in South and Central Asia, combining economic initiatives with security cooperation to address both development and regional threats.
