SAEDNEWS: A massive landslide on Saturday morning ripped a huge crater beneath Norway’s E6 motorway and adjacent rail line, leaving a Danish worker missing and presumed dead, one motorist rescued, and three houses evacuated as authorities probe causes.
According to SaedNews, an enormous volume of earth plunged into a lakeside slope early Saturday, taking both lanes of the E6 and the parallel railway with it and opening a vast hole in the roadway. Police say a Danish construction worker who had been at a nearby stabilisation site is missing and is now presumed dead; another person whose car was dragged toward the lake was pulled to safety. Emergency crews evacuated three houses — one because it sits perilously close to the crater and two because road access was judged too dangerous.
A truck driver at the scene described how the road gave way beneath a vehicle ahead of him: he braked, reversed, and watched the edge continue to collapse just metres from his position. The state company responsible for the groundworks said it is too early to conclude whether the stabilisation work contributed to the slide; the region is known to have soft, partly unstable subsoil. Police have appealed for dashcam footage from motorists to establish the exact sequence of events and to check whether additional vehicles were lost in the collapse.
