SAEDNEWS: Moscow calls on the international community to take urgent measures of influence on Kiev following a Ukrainian attack on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
According to SAEDNEWS, In recent statements, Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, emphasized Russia's long-standing calls for the international community to take action regarding the situation in Ukraine. She asserted that the Ukrainian government, particularly President Zelensky, along with Western countries like Washington and London, view nuclear power plants as potential tools for terrorist activities.
Zakharova's comments followed an incident on August 11, during which the authorities at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) reported that a Ukrainian drone struck the cooling towers area, causing damage and resulting in a fire. ZNPP spokesperson Yevgenia Yashina noted that this was the first instance of significant damage at the nuclear facility since the conflict began.
The incident has prompted the ZNPP authorities to inform the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the drone strike. In light of the events, Russia’s Rosatom Atomic Energy Corporation characterized Ukraine's actions as a potential act of nuclear terrorism.
These developments underscore the ongoing tensions in the region and the concerns surrounding the safety and security of nuclear facilities amidst the conflict.
