SAEDNEWS: Portugal declared that it will officially recognize the state of Palestine in the coming days.
Just before an international Palestine conference at the UN in New York, Portugal is preparing to officially recognize Palestinian statehood, signaling a notable shift in its foreign policy.
Unlike neighboring Spain, which has already recognized Palestine, Portugal is taking a cautious, coordinated approach with other EU countries. This move follows a growing wave of European recognition, including Spain, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, and Cyprus, with France expected to follow soon.
The push for recognition comes amid global outrage over Israel’s military actions in Gaza since October 2023, which have caused over 65,000 deaths and 165,000 injuries, with a large number of women and children among the victims.
