Pezeshkian: Foreign Powers Will Not Disrupt Tehran–Yerevan Ties

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday, August 29, 2025, met with Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of Armenia’s National Security Council, expressing satisfaction with the outcome of his recent trip to Yerevan. He described the visit as successful and productive, underlining constructive talks and positive agreements reached between senior officials of the two countries.

Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran’s concerns regarding recent developments in the South Caucasus—particularly the presence of foreign forces in this sensitive region—were largely alleviated following clarifications and assurances provided by Armenian officials.

The President also voiced satisfaction with progress on the North–South Corridor, highlighting Armenia’s active role in pushing the project forward. He called the corridor a key step toward strengthening economic and even political convergence among the member states of the Eurasian Union. Accelerating the implementation of bilateral agreements, especially in transport cooperation, was described as a major achievement of his Yerevan visit.

“Our current goals can shape a bright horizon for both nations,” Pezeshkian said, urging greater facilitation of trade and joint investment between Iranian and Armenian business communities. He added that cooperation should go beyond the exchange of goods, moving toward joint production in advanced technologies, biotechnology, and nanotechnology. He stressed that no foreign power should be able to undermine the friendly and strategic relations between Tehran and Yerevan.

For his part, Armen Grigoryan thanked the Iranian President for his commitment to expanding bilateral ties. He described Pezeshkian’s visit to Yerevan as highly significant for Armenia, noting that it helped define the roadmap for future cooperation.

Grigoryan affirmed the strategic nature of Armenia–Iran relations and expressed Yerevan’s readiness to sign a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement. He also pointed to the active presence of Iranian companies in Armenia and voiced hope that infrastructure and development projects in his country would advance with their participation. Armenia, he added, is prepared to increase trade volume with Iran severalfold.
