SAEDNEWS: Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney announced she will vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election, citing the dangers posed by Donald Trump.
According to SAEDNEWS, Former Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney has made headlines by announcing that she will vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election. Cheney made this statement during remarks at Duke University in North Carolina, a crucial battleground state.
Cheney emphasized the importance of supporting Harris, stating, “I think it is crucially important for people to recognize... the danger that Trump poses... I don’t believe that we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states.” As a conservative who values the Constitution, she believes voting for Harris is vital due to what she considers the threat Donald Trump represents.
Cheney's announcement is significant not only because of her former Republican affiliation but also because of her history as a vocal critic of Trump. She mentioned, “...because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris.”
The Harris campaign was quick to highlight Cheney’s endorsement, with campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon stating that the Vice President is “proud to have earned Congresswoman Cheney’s vote.” Dillon described Cheney as a patriot who prioritizes democracy and the Constitution.
Cheney’s opposition to Trump stems from her actions during his presidency, including her vote to impeach him and her role as vice chair of the House select committee investigating the January 6 insurrection. Her outspoken stance against Trump's influence in the Republican Party has led to significant political consequences, including her removal from the House Republican leadership.
In previous elections, Cheney has actively worked against candidates endorsing Trump's false claims about the 2020 election. She has also supported moderate Democrats in competitive races, showing her commitment to opposing extreme elements within her party.
As the 2024 election approaches, Cheney’s endorsement of Harris stands as a remarkable instance of political crossover in a deeply divided landscape.
