Iran Dismisses Allegations Of Attempting To Influence US Election

According to SAEDNEWS, The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, located in New York, asserted that Tehran has no intention, objective, or activities aimed at impacting the 2024 U.S. election.

Iran’s UN mission addressed concerns raised by American intelligence officials about the Islamic Republic's alleged plans to disrupt the election and adversely influence the campaign of Donald Trump, the Republican Party's candidate. The Iranian mission emphasized, “Iran has no goal or activity to influence the American elections. Many of these accusations are psychological operations aimed at creating a false narrative for election campaigns.”

Earlier, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence identified Russia as the primary threat to U.S. elections, while also claiming that Iran is attempting to interfere by employing online personas and propaganda mechanisms to disseminate disinformation. The statement indicated that foreign adversaries are not only focused on the presidential race but are also trying to influence congressional and other down-ballot elections, potentially undermining the United States.

This response followed allegations that Iran was plotting to assassinate Trump, claims which Iranian officials labeled as “baseless and biased.” The Permanent Mission declared, “From the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Trump is a criminal who must be prosecuted and punished in a court of law for ordering the assassination of General Soleimani. Iran has chosen the legal route to pursue justice against him.”

American voters will head to the polls on November 5 to select the next President of the United States, with the elected candidate beginning a four-year term in January 2025. Incumbent President Joe Biden has withdrawn his candidacy for re-election, citing concerns about his mental health and poor debate performance against Trump. He has since endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who is expected to be officially nominated at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Chicago to compete against Trump.
