SAEDNEWS: Belarus' Foreign Ministry summoned the Ukrainian charge d'affaires on Saturday and told Kyiv to act against airspace violations after Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said a dozen Ukrainian drones had been destroyed.

Belarus Calls on Ukraine to Address Recent Violations in Airspace

According to SAEDNEWS, In a recent statement reported by TASS, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs raised significant concerns regarding Ukraine's handling of drone incursions into its airspace. The statement emphasized that if Ukraine fails to prevent similar incidents in the future, Belarus may reconsider the "appropriateness" of Ukraine's diplomatic representation in Minsk, according to Reuters.

The ministry highlighted the urgency for Ukraine to implement comprehensive measures that would ensure such provocations do not reoccur, as they could lead to escalating tensions in the region. TASS reported that the Belarusian government underscored that if Ukraine's diplomatic presence in Belarus is unable to effectively prevent these provocations, it would lead to discussions about the viability of maintaining such representation.

This warning follows an incident where, on Friday, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced that air defense forces successfully intercepted several Ukrainian drones that had violated Belarusian airspace in the eastern Mogilev region, close to the Russian border. Lukashenko noted that these drones were among "about a dozen" detected, indicating a concerning trend of cross-border aerial threats.

Additionally, it was reported that some of the drones were later intercepted near the Russian city of Yaroslavl. The Russian Defense Ministry corroborated this, stating that Russian forces successfully intercepted six drones in that region.

As tensions continue to simmer in Eastern Europe, this latest development raises questions about the stability of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Ukraine. The dynamics of airspace violations and defense responses are likely to complicate already strained relations in a region grappling with ongoing conflicts and geopolitical intricacies. The international community will be watching closely to see how each side navigates this delicate situation in the coming days.
