Banana Parfait: A Delicious and Elegant Dessert to Shine at Parties

According to SaedNews Family Service, desserts are among the most popular and diverse treats worldwide. Fruit-based desserts, in particular, are flavorful, aromatic, and beloved by many. Desserts are typically served after meals because their sweetness can aid digestion. With the arrival of warmer months, enjoying a cool, delicious dessert on a hot summer day is especially satisfying.

The parfait, originating from France, is a type of chilled dessert whose name means “perfect.” In France, it is traditionally made with eggs, sugar, and cream. In the United States, layers of ice cream, jelly, caramel, syrup, nuts, or fresh fruit are often added.

Banana parfait is a delightful and chilled dessert made by combining milk, sugar, caramel cream powder, cream, and cornstarch, then topped with bananas and biscuits. The result is not only delicious but also visually appealing and elegant. If you’d like to prepare this treat at home, follow our step-by-step guide to making banana parfait.

Ingredients

  • Milk: 4 cups

  • Caramel cream powder: 1 package

  • Sugar: ½ cup

  • Bananas: 2

  • Cornstarch: 7 tablespoons

  • Breakfast cream (whipping cream): 1 package

  • Petit Beurre biscuits: 1 package

Instructions

  1. Pour the milk into a suitable saucepan. Add sugar, caramel cream powder, and cornstarch, and whisk until smooth.

  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture begins to boil. Once it thickens, remove from heat.

  3. Allow the cream to reach room temperature. Pour a ladle of the dessert mixture into the cream and stir well to loosen it, then return it to the saucepan and mix thoroughly.

  4. Slice the bananas into rings and crush the Petit Beurre biscuits into a fine powder using a pestle.

  5. Prepare your dessert glasses by placing a layer of biscuit powder at the bottom. Arrange banana slices around the sides of the glass so they stick to the wall.

  6. Pour some of the dessert mixture into the glass, sprinkle with more biscuit powder, and layer more bananas. Repeat until the glass is filled.

  7. Top with a little caramel sauce from the caramel cream packet and garnish with a few banana slices.

  8. Chill the parfait in the refrigerator for 1 hour before serving. Enjoy!

Tips

  1. Cornstarch is white and powdery with a soft texture. Rubbing a little between your fingers produces a slight squeak. Cornstarch is used in desserts and cooking to add thickness. Note that wheat starch is different and cannot replace cornstarch. Cornstarch can be purchased in hygienic packaging at specialty baking stores.

  2. Vanilla Petit Beurre biscuits are ideal for this dessert, but any plain vanilla biscuit can be used as a substitute.
