According to SaedNews, the advanced Nebo-M radar, valued at over $100 million, is one of the strategic assets of the Russian military. It is estimated that only about 10 Nebo-M radar systems are active in the Russian military.
This highly advanced radar can detect aerial threats from long distances, even in stealth mode. The system receives inputs from multiple radars operating in VHF, UHF, X, and L bands, which are processed and controlled in the central control unit.
The Nebo-M radar system is a multi-functional radar that became fully operational in 2017. According to its manufacturer, this radar can detect targets up to 600 kilometers away and monitor the sky within a 1,200-kilometer range, relaying target positions to missile defense systems.
The ballistic missile used by Ukraine to attack this Russian radar was the ATACMS, manufactured in the USA. This guided tactical ballistic missile can be launched instantly from the MLRS artillery rocket system.
The ATACMS has a maximum range of 300 kilometers and can be launched from the HIMARS platform.
