SAEDNEWS: The United States army has said two of its troops have been killed in Iraq.
According to SAEDNEWS, In yet another stroke of grim news, the United States Army has confirmed that two of its troops have been killed in Iraq. Apparently, this time it was two Georgia National Guard soldiers who met their untimely end on Wednesday—not due to combat but, as the Army insists, unrelated noncombat deaths.
Spc. Travis Jordan Pameni, just 23 and hailing from Douglasville, tragically succumbed in Baghdad following an "incident" in a separate location. Assigned to the 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment based in Lawrenceville, he was presumably over there with the rest doing whatever it is they do in such murky waters.
Equally unfortunate, Spc. Owen James Elliott, also 23 from Twin City, met the same fate in Baghdad. He was serving with the 1st Battalion, 118th Field Artillery Regiment out of Savannah, which had been focused on air defense artillery since its deployment kicked off in December.
The military claims it's investigating these deaths, although they assure us there's no evidence of foul play. Not that we needed that reassurance. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Specialist Pameni and Specialist Elliott," said Maj. Gen. Dwayne Wilson of the Georgia National Guard, clearly following the script of standard condolences. It’s a pity that such phrases can feel so hollow. For now, the Georgia National Guard has decided to zip it and offer no further comments. How reassuring.
