According to SAEDNEWS, 15-year-old Zahra Rahimi has made history for Iran by winning the country’s first medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games. Competing in the women’s 52kg para-taekwondo division, Rahimi secured a silver medal on Thursday, marking a significant achievement for Iranian women's para-taekwondo.
In the final match, Rahimi faced off against Mongolia's S. Ulambayar, ultimately falling short with a score of 5:2. Despite the loss, the young athlete's journey to the podium captivated fans and showcased her immense talent.
Rahimi's path to the finals was impressive. She kicked off her competition by overpowering China's Shao Jian with a decisive 13:2 victory in her opening bout. Following that success, she continued her winning streak with a hard-fought 6:4 win against Brazil's ME Machado Stumpf in the quarterfinals.
The turning point came in the semifinals, where Rahimi delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Georgia's Ana Japaridze with a commanding 6:0 score, thus securing her place in the finals.
