SAEDNEWS: It has been a golden night for Iran at the 17th edition of the Paralympic Games as the sitting volleyball team and shot put take the nation’s gold tally to 6.
According to SAEDNEWS, On September 6, 2024, Iran celebrated a spectacular night at the Paris Paralympics, bringing their gold medal tally to six. This impressive achievement comes after the men's sitting volleyball team won against Bosnia and Herzegovina, securing a 3-1 victory in the final match.
In the thrilling volleyball final, Iran initially lost the first set but fought back to win the second set. The team then showcased their strength and skill, dominating the third and fourth sets. This victory marks Iran's eighth gold medal in sitting volleyball, contributing to their fifth gold and 21st overall medal in these games.
In addition to the volleyball triumph, Yasin Khosravi added to the excitement by winning gold in the men's shot put F57 event. Khosravi threw an impressive 15.96 meters, breaking the Paralympic Games record and bringing Iran's gold medal count to six and overall medals to 22.
Earlier in the day, Rouhollah Rostami also clinched gold in the men's 80kg para powerlifting category. He lifted 242kg, breaking both world and Paralympic records. Rostami's victory was celebrated by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who praised him, saying, "Our dear wrestler, Ruhollah Rostami, you did wonders in the Paralympics and raised the proud flag of Iran. Congratulations on winning the gold medal."
On the ninth day of the Paralympic Games, Iranian athletes won three valuable gold medals, pushing the team to 15th place in the overall ranking table and significantly improving their position in the medal distribution rankings.
