SAEDNEWS: The Russian embassy rejected the Romanian foreign ministry’s protest over the alleged violation of the country’s airspace by a Russian drone.
Tensions flared on Sunday as the Russian Ambassador to Romania, Vladimir Lipayev, firmly rejected Bucharest’s protest over an alleged Russian drone violation of Romanian airspace, calling the incident “another provocation by the Kiev regime.”
Speaking to TASS, Lipayev said that during his meeting at the Romanian Foreign Ministry, he received no concrete evidence identifying the drone as Russian. “Due to the lack of any objective proof of national identification, the protest was rejected as far-fetched and groundless,” the ambassador emphasized. He added that the incident reflects Kyiv’s desperate attempts to drag other countries into a military conflict against Russia amid fears of looming failure and accountability for its actions.
The protest followed reports from Romania’s Defense Ministry that a Russian drone spent 50 minutes in Romanian airspace before returning toward Ukraine. The situation prompted the scrambling of two Romanian F-16s and two German Eurofighter Typhoons to monitor the aerial activity, underscoring the seriousness of the alleged breach.
As both sides exchange sharp statements, the incident highlights the escalating tensions in Eastern Europe, raising concerns about the risk of broader military confrontations.
