Iran and India Strengthen Ties: Key Political Talks in Tehran Signal Growing Regional Cooperation

On September 8, 2025, Tehran hosted a high-level meeting between Iran and India, marking another milestone in the nations’ longstanding diplomatic relationship. Chaired by Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Director General for South Asia at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Anand Prakash, Regional Director General at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the talks brought together officials from multiple sectors—including trade, transport, ports, agriculture, and finance.

The discussions commemorated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Iran and India and focused on strengthening cooperation in line with shared prosperity. Key topics included connectivity projects such as the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), economic and trade development, and collaboration in regional and international organizations like the UN, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Both sides emphasized the importance of regular political consultations as a foundation for deeper Foreign Office engagement and agreed to hold the next round of talks in New Delhi next year. The meeting underscores the two nations’ commitment to enhancing bilateral ties, exploring new avenues for cooperation, and reinforcing their strategic partnership in an evolving regional landscape.
