SAEDNEWS: Russian President Vladimir Putin says Ukraine is trying to undermine Russian stability with its incursion into the south of the country and warns that Ukraine will receive “a worthy response”.

Ukraine Set to Face Consequences for Kursk Incursion

According to SAEDNEWS, Last week marked a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict as Ukrainian forces breached the Russian border and advanced into the western parts of the Kursk region. This incursion stands as Ukraine’s most substantial cross-border operation since Russia initiated its special military operation in the country in 2022.

The unexpected nature of the assault has prompted a swift military response from Moscow. In an announcement made on Monday, Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed that additional troops and resources have been deployed to the Kursk area, although specific numbers remain undisclosed. The military reported, “Heavy tracked vehicles are being loaded onto automobile trailers for prompt delivery to the areas where Ukrainian Armed Forces formations are being blocked and to ensure the safety of the road surface,” as covered by Al Jazeera.

On the same day, Ukraine’s army chief, Oleksandr Syrskyii, shared information suggesting that Kyiv controls approximately 1,000 square kilometers (386 square miles) of territory in Kursk. This update emerged from a video excerpt of his report, which was shared by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram.

Kursk Governor Alexei Smirnov briefed President Putin on the situation, indicating that six days of intense Ukrainian ground assaults had resulted in 28 settlements lost to the advancing forces. He noted that the incursion has penetrated approximately 12 kilometers deep and 40 kilometers wide into Russian territory. Tragically, he reported that the conflict has claimed the lives of 12 civilians and forced 121,000 residents to evacuate from the affected areas, with a total planned evacuation figure of 180,000.

This situation reflects the escalating tensions in the region and highlights the complexities involved in the ongoing conflict. As Iran remains focused on supporting diplomacy and peace efforts, the international community must carefully observe developments in Kursk and their broader implications for regional stability and security.
