According to SAEDNEWS, Turkey has officially applied to join the BRICS group of emerging nations, aiming to increase its global influence and build new partnerships outside of its traditional Western allies, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The request comes as Turkey expresses frustration with its slow progress towards joining the European Union. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government believes that the global power balance is shifting away from developed economies, seeking to adapt to this changing landscape.
This new diplomatic effort shows Turkey's desire to connect with various countries in a multipolar world while still meeting its responsibilities as a member of NATO. Sources indicated that Turkey submitted its request to join BRICS several months ago due to growing dissatisfaction with its long-standing EU membership aspirations.
