Trump: The Next 48 Hours Will Decide Gaza’s Fate

According to the Politics Desk of Saed News, U.S. President Donald Trump believes that the next 48-hour round of indirect talks between the Israeli regime and Hamas in Egypt will be decisive for the prospects of resolving the Gaza conflict.

Meanwhile, Fox News reported that Trump has tasked his negotiators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, with reaching an agreement between the parties involved in the conflict.

On September 29, Trump unveiled a 20-point plan to resolve the Gaza conflict. The proposal calls, among other things, for an immediate ceasefire and the release of Israeli prisoners within 72 hours. The plan also stipulates that Hamas and other factions must relinquish their administrative role in Gaza, which would then be handed over to a “technocratic, non-political Palestinian committee” under the supervision of an international board led by Trump.

On October 3, Hamas announced that it had agreed to transfer governance of Gaza to a Palestinian committee based on broad consensus. Hamas also expressed its readiness to release all living Israeli prisoners and return the bodies of the deceased according to Trump’s plan, adding that the movement would participate in discussions about Gaza’s future within a pan-Palestinian framework.

Trump emphasized that the United States would do “everything in its power” to prevent the Israeli regime from restarting the Gaza war, should Hamas agree to a peace deal.

The indirect talks between Israel and Hamas have continued for a third consecutive day in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Speaking from Washington D.C., Trump sought to assuage Arab nations’ concerns regarding guarantees for lasting peace. Addressing reporters in the Oval Office, he said:

"Well, the main guarantee is that when this agreement is reached—if it happens right now in these talks—we will do everything we can."

Trump added: "We are very close to a Middle East agreement that will bring peace… After all these years of millions of deaths, tens of millions affected, there is now a real opportunity to bring peace to the region."

However, in the occupied territories and Gaza, there remains cautious optimism that this round of negotiations could succeed, while acknowledging that previous talks have failed.
