SAEDNEWS: US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has agreed to an offer to hold a debate with Democratic US Vice President Kamala Harris on Sept. 4, he said.
According to SAEDNEWS, Former President Donald Trump has accepted an invitation from Fox News to participate in a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris on September 4. He announced his decision in a post on Truth Social on Friday evening.
“I have agreed with Fox News to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th. The debate was originally set against Sleepy Joe Biden on ABC, but has since been canceled due to Biden's withdrawal from the race. Additionally, I am currently in litigation with ABC Network and George Stephanopoulos, which has created a conflict of interest,” Trump wrote.
The debate is set to take place in the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, at a location to be determined. Trump revealed that it would feature moderators Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum and that the rules would mirror those of his previous debate with Biden—albeit with the addition of a full arena audience.
Initially, Trump had been prepared to debate President Joe Biden, with a matchup scheduled for September 10 on ABC News. However, following Biden's exit from the race last month and Harris emerging as the presumptive
Democratic nominee, Trump was uncertain about engaging in a debate against her.
“I want to do a debate. But I also can say this: Everybody knows who I am, and now people know who she is,” Trump stated during an interview on Fox News last Monday.
It’s worth noting that Trump has previously bypassed debates, opting out of all the 2024 Republican presidential primary debates thus far.
In the meantime, both Trump and Harris have initiated a robust advertising campaign aimed at each other in key battleground states. Harris is currently undertaking a $50 million, three-week ad blitz leading up to the Democratic National Convention, while Trump has reserved $12 million in airtime across several pivotal states, including Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, Nevada, and Wisconsin, as reported by AdImpact.
