Saed News: The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry says that the country is eagerly awaiting the visit of the Iranian delegation to Moscow and the meeting and discussions with their Russian counterparts.
According to a report by Saed News quoting IRNA, Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced that Moscow is planning a meeting and dialogue between the Iranian diplomatic delegation and Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister.
Zakharova said: “We are eagerly awaiting our Iranian counterparts. A dialogue with Sergey Lavrov, as well as meetings with Russian officials, has been arranged.”
Zakharova's remarks coincide with the first round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States in Oman. These indirect negotiations were held on Saturday with the participation of Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, and Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, along with his accompanying delegation in Oman. Following Trump’s unilateral and illegal withdrawal from the JCPOA (Iran nuclear deal) during his first presidential term in 2018, this is the first time such indirect negotiations are taking place at the highest level between the two countries.
January Visit of Pezeshkian to Moscow: Signing of Strategic Partnership Agreement between the Two Countries
During Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Moscow in January, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Pezeshkian signed a strategic partnership agreement between the two countries. This strategic cooperation covers a wide range of fields including defense, counterterrorism, energy, financial affairs, transportation, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and technology.
On April 8, the State Duma of Russia approved the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between Russia and Iran.
The next round of negotiations between Tehran and Washington regarding Iran’s nuclear program is scheduled for next week. Kasper Veldkamp, the Dutch Foreign Minister, announced that the next round of indirect talks between the U.S. and Iran will take place in Rome, the capital of Italy.
According to Al Arabiya, two diplomatic sources based in Rome also confirmed the matter and stated that the talks will be held on April 19 (next Saturday).
The Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the negotiations scheduled for next week, like those in Oman, will be indirect and will focus solely on the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions.
Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said in a press conference with reporters that “The location of the negotiations is not important, and the format of negotiations with the U.S. will remain indirect and mediated by Oman.”
