Raw Lasagna Sheets: 12 sheets
Olive Oil: 2 teaspoons
Large Onion (chopped): 1
Garlic (chopped): 1 clove
Mixed Spices (pepper, turmeric, thyme, etc.): 1.5 teaspoons
Red Pepper: 1/4 teaspoon
High-quality Sausage: 500g
Peeled Tomatoes: 1.5 kg
Salt and Pepper: To taste
Grated Mozzarella Cheese: 6 cups
Grated Parmigiano Cheese (Parmesan): 3/4 cup
1. Prepare the Lasagna Sheets:
Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil.
Once the water is boiling, add the lasagna sheets and cook until they soften. Be careful to avoid them sticking together.
Once done, set aside and let them cook while preparing the sauce.
2. Make the Sauce:
In a deep pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
Add the onion, garlic, mixed spices, and red pepper and sauté for about 5 minutes, until the mixture turns a light brown color.
3. Add Sausage:
Chop the sausages and add them to the pan, frying for 5 minutes.
Chop the tomatoes finely, or use an electric blender to mash them. Add the tomatoes to the pan and cook over low heat for about 20 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. This will make around 8 cups of sauce.
4. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
5. Assemble the Lasagna:
Remove the lasagna sheets from the boiling water and pat them dry.
In a baking dish, spread 1 cup of sauce and evenly layer it across the bottom.
Place 4 lasagna sheets on top of the sauce, ensuring they are fully covered.
Add 2 cups of sauce, 2 cups of mozzarella, and 1/4 cup of parmesan on top.
Repeat this layering process until you have used up all ingredients. For the last layer, add the remaining 3 cups of sauce and sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and parmesan.
6. Bake:
Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
After 1 hour, remove the foil and continue baking for another 30 minutes, allowing the top to become golden and slightly crispy.
7. Serve:
Once done, remove the lasagna from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Enjoy your delicious Sausage and Tomato Lasagna!
