Hamas Chief Haniyeh Laid to Rest in Doha

According to SAEDNEWS, A grand funeral was held in Qatar for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, with thousands of mourners gathering at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul al-Wahhab Mosque in Doha.

The funeral was attended by leaders from various countries, including Turkey, Lebanon, Yemen, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Haniyeh's body was buried in a cemetery in Lusail, north of the Qatari capital.

Haniyeh was assassinated by Israel in Iran on Wednesday, sparking widespread condemnation and regional tensions. The Palestinian leader had been playing a key role in mediated talks aimed at ending the 10-month war between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip.

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, condemned the assassination, saying it undermines the chances of successful mediation. "How can mediation succeed when one party assassinates the negotiator on the other side?" he asked.

The funeral was attended by one of Haniyeh's daughters, Sara, who shared a emotional video on social media showing her pouring holy water over her father's grave before lowering her head to kiss it.

In his eulogy, Haniyeh's predecessor, Khaled Meshaal, hailed the slain leader as a devoted servant of his people and cause. He vowed that Hamas would not be deterred by Haniyeh's death and would continue to fight for a free Palestine. "Palestine will remain from the river to the sea...and the Zionists (Israel) have no place on the land of Palestine," Meshaal said.

The ceremony was marked by anger and grief among mourners, who lined up outside the mosque in sweltering temperatures of 44C. Many attendees expressed their admiration for Haniyeh as a symbol of resistance against Israeli occupation.

Turkey and Pakistan announced a day of mourning to honor Haniyeh, while Hamas called for a "day of furious rage" across the world.
