Follow this easy step-by-step guide to prepare a delectable date cake at home, with or without an oven.
1 cup flour
18 dates
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1 small cube of butter (10 g)
⅔ cup milk
Cocoa powder (optional, as needed)
Prepare the Dry Ingredients
Sift the flour and baking powder together in a bowl.
Mix the Wet Ingredients
Beat the egg thoroughly in another bowl. Add vanilla and half the melted butter, then mix well.
Prepare the Dates
Remove the pits from the dates and finely chop them. Add the chopped dates to the egg mixture and mix thoroughly.
Combine the Ingredients
Gradually add the sifted flour and baking powder to the wet mixture in several stages. As you do this, add the milk slowly to ensure a smooth and consistent batter.
Prepare the Cookware
Heat a pot on the stove. Add the remaining butter to the pot and grease all sides thoroughly.
Cook the Cake
Pour the batter into the greased pot and smooth the surface. Cover the pot with a lid lined with a cloth to absorb moisture.
For the first 5 minutes, cook on medium heat.
After 5 minutes, lower the heat and continue cooking with a heat diffuser under the pot.
Do not open the lid for the first 30 minutes. Afterward, test the cake with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, the cake is ready.
4 eggs
400–500 g dates
1 cup boiling water
1½ cups flour
½ cup liquid oil
1 tbsp cinnamon
¼ tsp vanilla
Prepare the Dates
Remove the pits, boil the dates in hot water for 3 minutes, and peel them. Blend the dates with 1 cup of boiling water to create a puree.
Mix Ingredients
Beat the eggs and vanilla for 5–8 minutes until light and fluffy. Add the oil and mix for 30 seconds.
Incorporate Dry Ingredients
Mix the flour, baking powder, and cinnamon, then sift three times. Gradually fold the dry ingredients and the date puree into the wet mixture, alternating between the two.
Bake or Cook Without an Oven
Oven Method: Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F). Pour the batter into a greased pan (e.g., a 20 cm round or loaf pan) and bake for 45 minutes.
Stovetop Method: Heat a pot, grease it, pour in the batter, and cover with a cloth-lined lid. Cook on low heat for 1 hour.
When grating orange peel for a citrusy touch, avoid the white part, as it can make the cake bitter.
Adjust the oven temperature 20°C lower for electric ovens.
For a healthier option, use diet-friendly oils.
Gradually mix the dates with the flour to ensure even distribution.
Enjoy your healthy and delicious sugar-free date cake!
