Saed News: Tabarsi narrates in his commentary that when Prophet Yusuf passed away, the people of Egypt started to quarrel, and each tribe wanted Yusuf's body to be buried in their area so that his grave would bring blessings to their lives.
According to the news and analytical service of Saed News, quoting from Faradeed, it was ultimately decided that the body of Prophet Yusuf would be buried in the Nile River so that the Nile water would flow over it and reach all the cities, ensuring that the blessing of Prophet Yusuf would be equally shared by everyone. Therefore, after Prophet Yusuf’s death, his body was placed in a marble coffin and buried in the Nile River.
Many years have passed, yet some unresolved matters about Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) still remain, such as the story of the relocation of his grave and the current location of his burial.
The Tomb of Prophet Yusuf and the Story of the Relocation of His Grave:
Yusuf was one of the prophets of the Children of Israel and the son of Jacob (Ya'qub), whose life story is one of the most beautiful tales in the Qur'an. Yusuf was thrown into a well by his brothers as a child, but by God's will, he was saved and later ruled in Egypt for many years.
Prophet Yusuf achieved great popularity and high honor in Egypt, so much so that the people of Egypt quarrelled over the place of his burial. Eventually, Prophet Yusuf was buried in the Nile River. The Nile's waters would pass over his grave and bless the people equally. Therefore, after his death, Prophet Yusuf was placed in a marble coffin and buried in the Nile.
The Relocation of Prophet Yusuf's Grave and its Current Location:
Prophet Yusuf's body remained buried in the Nile River until one day, when the moon did not appear to the Children of Israel due to dense clouds. God revealed to Prophet Musa (Moses) that he should take the bones of Prophet Yusuf from the grave so that the moon would shine on them.
Prophet Musa asked the people who knew the location of Prophet Yusuf's grave, and they said an old woman knew. Musa ordered for the old woman to be brought to him.
He asked her if she knew where Prophet Yusuf's grave was, and she said yes. He then asked her to show him the location, but she refused unless he fulfilled four of her wishes:
That her legs would be healed.
That she would return to her youth.
That her sight would be restored.
That she would be taken to Heaven.
God revealed to Prophet Musa that he should fulfill her wishes. After her wishes were granted, she revealed the location of Prophet Yusuf's grave. Prophet Musa then retrieved Prophet Yusuf’s body from the Nile, and the moon appeared.
According to Yaqut Hamawi, the 6th-7th century historian, Prophet Musa buried Prophet Yusuf in Palestine. The tomb of Prophet Yusuf is now located near the city of Nablus in Palestine, about six miles from Jerusalem, in a place called Quds Khalil.
How Long Did Prophet Yusuf Live?
It is said that Prophet Yusuf lived for 120 years. Throughout his life, he preached to people, encouraging them to worship God, do good deeds, and avoid evil.
Who Was the Prophet After Yusuf?
The son of Prophet Jacob, named Levi (Lawee), is considered the ancestor of many prophets of the Children of Israel. According to a narration from Imam Sadiq, Prophet Yusuf gathered his family before his death and told them that they would soon be oppressed by the Egyptians. Their salvation would come through a descendant of Levi named Musa (Moses).
Prophet Yusuf had two sons: Manasseh and Ephraim. After Prophet Musa, Joshua bin Nun, the son of Ephraim, became a prophet.
Some reports state that Joshua lived for 30 years after Prophet Musa.
