About Bel Waterfall
The source of Bel Waterfall is a spring locally known in Kurdish as “Kani Bel.” Its name is likely derived from Bel, the ancient Babylonian water god. The spring is located about 2 kilometers from Hajij village and close to the Dariyan Dam lake. After emerging from the mountain’s heart, the water forms a roaring waterfall that flows into the lake.
The spring’s exit resembles the mouth of a cave, seemingly blocked by a collapse. The water quality is considered among the best mineral waters worldwide, with minerals like nitrate, chloride, fluoride, and hardness at standard levels. This water eventually flows into the Sirwan River and then crosses into Iraq.
