Saednews: Nowruz grass is considered one of the beautiful symbols on the Haft-Seen table, representing life, vitality, and growth. Iranians grow Nowruz grass with cereal seeds. If you are among those who like to prepare Haft-Seen items at home, don't miss out on this tree-like Nowruz grass.
According to the Family Magazine service of Saad News, various seeds like wheat, lentils, cress, beans, etc., as well as mucilaginous seeds like purslane, can be used for growing grass in a fishbowl. The first thing you need to do is gather the appropriate amount of your desired seeds that match the size of your chosen bowl and follow the steps below:
First, soak your chosen seeds in water for about 12 hours. During this time, change the water regularly to prevent the seeds from spoiling or smelling.
Next, in order to help the seeds germinate, place them between a clean cotton cloth and expose them to sunlight. During this stage, the seeds need to be watered twice a day so that they are thoroughly wet.
Once the seeds have sprouted, transfer them into the fishbowl. This should be done with a layer of seeds about 3 to 4 centimeters thick.
Then, place the fishbowl containing the seeds in direct sunlight and cover it with a thin plastic sheet for one day.
At this point, water the seeds twice a day to ensure they are completely hydrated.
Grass in the Fishbowl
A few important tips:
If you're using mucilaginous seeds like purslane, cress, or garden sorrel, it’s best to take a piece of plastic and rub the seeds onto it before placing them at the bottom of the bowl.
An important point to note when growing grass in a fishbowl is the watering amount. If you overwater the seeds, they will spoil and rot. So, it’s better to water them moderately and make sure to remove any excess water.
The time it takes for the grass to sprout depends on the type of seed and takes about 5 days, while it takes about a week for the grass to fully grow.
Make sure the location of the fishbowl is cool, otherwise, it may develop mold.
