According to Saed News’ social affairs desk, Yakutsk in eastern Siberia—known as one of the coldest places on Earth—is experiencing an unusually prolonged cold spell.

January is typically the city’s coldest month. While residents of this remote region are accustomed to freezing temperatures, these days they are taking extra precautions to keep warm.

One local, wrapped in two scarves, multiple layers of gloves, a hat, and fully bundled legs, told Reuters, “You can’t fight this cold. Either adapt to it and dress according to the temperature, or suffer.”

Another resident, who sells frozen fish at a local market, said that layering clothes is the key to staying warm. “Just dress warmly. In layers, like a cabbage,” he advised.

Back in 2018, temperatures in Yakutsk got so extreme that some residents’ eyelashes froze.
