According to Saed News, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered an unambiguous message of solidarity with Iran during a bilateral meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Tianjin. The encounter, closely watched by international observers, underscored Beijing’s stance against what it termed “bullying policies” by Western powers, especially following the recent 12-day U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.

Wang Yi lauded Tehran’s measured response amid heightened regional volatility and reaffirmed China’s opposition to unilateralism and coercion. “We will continue to support Iran in resisting bullying policies and preserving its national sovereignty,” Wang stated, pledging diplomatic and multilateral engagement through channels including the United Nations Security Council.

In return, Araghchi expressed gratitude for Beijing’s forthright condemnation of Israeli and American actions, particularly emphasizing China’s vocal defense of Iran’s peaceful nuclear infrastructure. He described China’s positions in international forums as “invaluable,” spotlighting the historic ties and evolving partnership between the two ancient civilizations.

Trade figures underscore this deepening relationship. Despite mounting Western sanctions, Iran-China trade surged in 2025, bolstered by agreements in energy, infrastructure, and technology sectors. Analysts describe the Tianjin meeting as a milestone, suggesting the SCO could serve as a platform for Iran to push back against future aggressions while bolstering its strategic standing.

Beijing’s “Five Common Yards” initiative—aimed at fostering unity, peace, prosperity, good neighborliness, and justice—resonates with Tehran’s strategic ambitions. Observers note Iran’s geographic role as a security buffer for China’s Belt and Road Initiative, reinforcing the symbiotic nature of their alliance.

As the geopolitical chessboard in West Asia shifts, the Tianjin talks illustrate China’s increasing willingness to assert itself as a central player in regional security dynamics, positioning itself as a counterbalance to U.S. influence.
