Wildlife Documentary Fans Rejoice: 92 Venomous Cobras Found Hiding in One Home!

According to Saed News’ Society Desk, the rattlesnake is a type of pit viper best known for the distinctive rattle at the end of its tail, which makes a bell-like sound when shaken.

With 36 recognized species and between 65 and 70 subspecies, rattlesnakes are highly diverse and considered dangerous due to venom containing both neurotoxins and hemotoxins.

A Homeowner’s Worst Nightmare
The story dates back to October 2021, when a terrified homeowner in California called the local animal control center for help.

In his call, he claimed that a large number of snakes had invaded his home.

Finding so many rattlesnakes in a single house is unusual, as these shy reptiles typically avoid humans whenever possible. But in this case, that was far from true.

When officials arrived, the scene was astonishing. Not one, not ten—but 92 rattlesnakes had made their home beneath the house.

Why So Many Snakes Gathered
Reptile expert Emily Taylor offers a convincing explanation. According to Taylor, the unlucky homeowner had inadvertently hosted a breeding colony of rattlesnakes.

Many North American snakes hibernate together in a suitable location during winter. These winter dens are called rookeries or hibernacula.

Sometimes, female snakes also gather in large groups to give birth. Yes, rattlesnakes are live-bearing, meaning they give birth to live young rather than laying eggs.

Ovoviviparity Explained
Ovoviviparity is a reproductive method that bridges the gap between egg-laying and live birth. In ovoviviparous species, embryos develop inside eggs that remain within the mother’s body until they hatch.

In the case of the unlucky homeowner, both adult rattlesnakes and a larger number of baby snakes were found under the house.
