SAEDNEWS: Thieves broke into Syria’s national museum and stole several ancient statues dating back to the Roman era, officials said Tuesday.
The National Museum of Damascus briefly closed Monday after a heist was discovered. The museum, reopened in January, houses priceless antiquities. Syrian authorities reported six marble statues stolen, with investigations ongoing. Officials said the theft occurred Sunday night when a classical department door was found broken. Syria has faced chaos and insecurity following the fall of the Assad government last year.
