SAEDNEWS: Vice President Harris is entering Labor Day weekend with a national polling lead over former President Trump in the race for the White House, but the race still seems up for grabs.
According to SAEDNEWS, As Labor Day weekend approaches, Vice President Kamala Harris is surging ahead of former President Donald Trump in national polls related to the 2024 presidential race. However, experts say the competition remains tight.
According to a national average from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ), Harris holds a lead of about 4 points over Trump. In key battleground states, which are likely to influence the outcome of the election, she is either tied or slightly ahead of Trump, as reported by The Hill.
For the last few weeks, Harris has maintained a lead in three important "blue wall" states: she is up by about 1 point in Pennsylvania, 2 points in Michigan, and 4 points in Wisconsin. Additionally, she has recently gained her first leads in Nevada and Georgia, although these are by less than 1 point.
With only nine weeks until Election Day, the numbers show that the race will become more intense as the election season kicks into high gear following Labor Day, which symbolizes the end of summer and the start of fall.
Harris recently participated in her first sit-down interview as the Democratic nominee, alongside her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. During the conversation with CNN’s Dana Bash on Thursday, she defended her shifting policies from her 2020 campaign without any major mistakes.
While momentum seems to be on Harris’s side, analysts still see the race as a toss-up, with no clear advantage for either candidate. Pollster Nate Silver noted that Trump's chance of winning the Electoral College has slightly increased, standing at 52.4 percent compared to Harris’s 47.3 percent following the recent Democratic convention.
"The good news for Harris is that if she merely holds her current numbers for a couple more weeks, she’ll begin to track up again in our forecast," Silver said, suggesting that her polling may improve as her numbers stabilize.
However, there may be concerns for Harris, particularly in Pennsylvania, where recent polls show her either tied or slightly behind Trump. As the convention influence fades, she could find herself further back.
Most national polls have shown Harris ahead by a few points, often within the margin of error. The Trump campaign claims that Harris is currently benefiting from a "honeymoon" phase, receiving positive headlines that inflate her poll numbers.
In a memo after the Democratic convention, the Trump campaign noted that while Harris might receive a boost, they believe it will be minor and temporary. They highlighted historical trends where candidates have led after their party's convention, only to lose in the November election.
