SAEDNEWS: For Iran, Iraq is more than a neighboring country, Iranian Foreign Minister told Iraqi media, adding that the Zionist regime is the common enemy of Tehran and Baghdad.
According to SAEDNEWS, In a recent interview with Iraqi media, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized the deep relationship between Iran and Iraq, stating that Iraq is "more than a neighboring country" to Iran—it's a "friend and brother country."
Araghchi spoke to Al Forat News, pointing out that President Pezeshkian's choice to visit Iraq first demonstrates the strong bond between the two nations. The President's trip will start in Baghdad and extend to Basra and Erbil, with plans to visit Najaf and Karbala as well.
The Foreign Minister also expressed Iran's support for Iraq's efforts to mediate regional tensions, particularly praising Iraq for hosting five rounds of talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia. He stated, "We are closely following the developments of Iraq's progress path," highlighting the importance of cooperation on regional economic projects.
Regarding security concerns, Araghchi mentioned a security agreement between Tehran and Baghdad, saying, "We are pleased with Iraq's actions against groups that target Iran." He noted that both countries are in regular consultation to ensure the effectiveness of this security agreement, established in 2021.
In concluding his remarks, he stressed that security and stability in Iraq are crucial for Iran, adding, "Our common enemy is the Zionist regime." This statement underscores the shared interests between the two countries as they navigate a complex regional landscape.
