SAEDNEWS: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has expressed his country’s support for Lebanon in confronting Israeli threats, as fears are growing about a full-blown war between Israel and Hezbollah.
According to SAEDNEWS, In a recent phone call with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib on Saturday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s "deep concern over the dangerously increasing pace of escalation" in the region.
On July 30, the Egyptian diplomat revealed that Cairo had been in contact with "relevant parties" to address and contain Israel's ongoing aggression against Lebanon, aiming to prevent the situation from escalating into a broader conflict.
During discussions with Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati and his counterpart, Abdelatty communicated Egypt's diplomatic efforts to avert a wide-scale war.
Both sides have agreed to maintain ongoing consultations to coordinate efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region, as stated by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
Since early October of last year, Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in deadly exchanges, coinciding with Israel's violent campaign against the Gaza Strip that followed a surprise operation by the Palestinian group Hamas. This conflict has led to the deaths of at least 39,550 Palestinians, predominantly women and children.
Hezbollah has vowed to continue its retaliatory measures as long as the Israeli onslaught in Gaza persists. While the movement has affirmed that it does not seek a war with Israel, it has also stressed its preparedness for such a scenario.
Hezbollah has a history of strong resistance during previous conflicts with Israel, notably in the 2000 and 2006 wars, both of which resulted in significant Israeli retreats.
