According to SAEDNEWS, Experts from the Cultural Heritage Department have revealed that recently discovered artifacts date back over 2,000 years, originating from the pre-Achaemenid and late Elamite periods. This significant find shines a light on Iran's rich archaeological heritage and deep historical roots.
Iranian police successfully apprehended the smugglers involved in the illegal transaction at Ganaveh Port in Bushehr province, arresting them during the deal in Shiraz city, Fars Province. This operation underscores ongoing efforts to combat cultural heritage crimes in the region.
Iran is renowned for being one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations, with settlements that trace back to 4000 BC. The country boasts a vast array of cultural monuments, including bustling bazaars, museums, mosques, bridges, bathhouses, madrasas, and gardens. Notably, it is home to 26 UNESCO World Heritage sites that attract attention from history enthusiasts and tourists alike.
While the name Iran often evokes imagery of the ancient Persian Empire ruled by the Achaemenids (550 – 330 BC) and iconic sites like Pasargadae and Persepolis, the country also holds countless prehistoric locations. Sites such as the Burnt City in Sistan-Baluchestan, Tepe Sialk in Kashan, and Chogha Zanbil in Khuzestan province predate the Achaemenid era and offer a glimpse into early human civilization.
Iranian history can be broadly categorized into pre-Islamic and Islamic eras, with significant events marking its evolution. The Medes, who unified Iran as a nation and empire around 625 BC, laid the foundation for future dynasties. The Islamic conquest of Persia (633–656) represented a pivotal moment, leading to the decline of the powerful Sassanid Empire (224–651) and shaping the course of Iranian history.
As investigations continue into the recently uncovered artifacts, this discovery serves as a reminder of Iran's vast historical tapestry and the importance of preserving its cultural heritage.
