SAEDNEWS: Syrian sources report that the "National Army" suffered heavy casualties in an ambush near Tishrin Dam, including a senior officer from Turkey's Military Intelligence Service.
According to SaedNews, citing Al-Maalouma, Syrian sources confirmed that a Turkish officer was killed around the Tishrin Dam in Syria.
The National Army forces, which are predominantly made up of Syrians, were ambushed near the Tishrin Dam in northern Syria, causing many deaths and injuries.
The sources emphasized that among the dead was an officer linked to Turkey's Military Intelligence Service who had been overseeing the progress of operations involving Ankara's loyal National Army forces. Initial reports indicated that the officer's rank was Colonel.
These sources also stated that Turkey is facing a protracted situation in Syria with its allies. Turkey is attempting to gain control over cities and areas controlled by the Kurdish forces supported by Washington.
Meanwhile, a few hours earlier, the Russian news agency Sputnik reported that, according to its sources, several Turkish fighter jets entered Syrian airspace via the northern border and launched a series of airstrikes against the positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) along the Tishrin and Deir Hafer axes in the eastern outskirts of Aleppo, northern Syria.
Sputnik added that information had been gathered regarding the extent of the damage caused by these airstrikes.
The sources indicated that the airstrikes followed a large reconnaissance operation in the northern and eastern Aleppo outskirts, conducted by Turkish drones.
According to these sources, the airstrikes focused on areas where clashes had occurred between SDF forces and Turkish-backed militants, particularly around the Tishrin Dam and the Manbij area in northeastern Aleppo.
These sources also noted that this was the first time in nine months that the Turkish military had used fighter jets to bomb locations belonging to SDF forces, as previously the SDF had managed to shoot down several Turkish drones, including the Bayraktar model, east of the Euphrates.
Sources familiar with the situation told Sputnik’s correspondent in Syria that SDF forces had announced that they had foiled an attack by Syrian armed groups supported by the Turkish army on villages south of the Tishrin Dam in the Aleppo countryside.
According to them, after several Turkish-backed Syrian armed group forces were killed and injured, the group was forced to retreat.
In this context, the SDF stated that the Haroun units affiliated with the group had successfully destroyed a vehicle carrying ammunition for forces linked to the Turkish army southeast of Manbij.
The SDF also added that during the clashes with Syrian forces backed by the Syrian army in the south and east of Manbij, 72 Turkish-backed Syrian forces were killed, and dozens more were injured.
The US-backed SDF controls northeastern Syria and does not have good relations with Turkey. With Syrian armed opposition forces close to Turkey gaining control, and senior officials of the group meeting with US representatives, it is expected that pressure on the SDF will increase.
In recent days, there have also been clashes between Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkey-backed forces.
