According to SAEDNEWS, As Argentina celebrated the equalizer, the referee felt forced to call off the match as countless Morocco fans stormed the field shortly after Cristian Medina’s dramatic goal.

The official had added 15 minutes to the match as he considered there was too much time wasting, and even though Argentina’s goal came in the dying seconds, the match was expected to continue for a bit longer.

Medina’s equalizer was eventually chalked off, and the players remained in the locker rooms while fans were cleared from the stadium.

Nearly two hours later, the teams reemerged to play out the remaining three minutes and 15 seconds in front of empty stands as Morocco held on for a 2-1 victory.

“It’s the biggest circus I’ve ever seen in my life,” Argentina coach Javier Mascherano said after the game, according to Reuters.

“I can’t explain what happened. We spent about an hour and a half in the dressing room where they never told us what was going to happen.”

The former Liverpool and Barcelona star said neither side wanted to play the final remaining minutes after fans threw projectiles at Argentina players

After going 2-0 down in the clash in Saint-Etienne, Argentina fought back with a goal from Giuliano Simeone in the 68th minute. A massive 15 minutes were added on at the end of the second half and the Albiceleste managed to fire in an equaliser through Cristian Medina after a wild attack that saw several attempts blocked, saved and hit the woodwork.

That goal sparked trouble in the crowd, as some people invaded the pitch while the Argentine bench was reportedly targeted by firecrackers thrown from the stands and the game was suspended with minutes left to play.

Amazingly, though, the leveller was ruled out more than an hour afterwards when a VAR review revealed Argentina's Bruno Amione was offside in the build up. Then, the teams were forced to come back out onto the field to play the final three minutes and Morocco held on to their lead to secure a 2-1 win.
