SAEDNEWS: Tehran has formally summoned Ukraine’s charge d’affaires in a forceful diplomatic rebuke, accusing Kyiv of undermining the UN Charter by applauding Israel’s military aggression against Iran.
According to Saed News, citing Tasnim, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday summoned Ukraine’s charge d’affaires, Oleksandr Mezhev, to lodge a stern protest over recent comments by Ukrainian officials that apparently endorsed Israel’s “war of aggression” against Iran. Shahram Farsaei, head of the First Department of Eurasian Affairs, delivered Iran’s formal note of protest, castigating Ukraine for “disregarding its international legal obligations under the UN Charter and the Geneva Conventions” by supporting what Tehran labels “heinous crimes” committed by the Israeli and American forces.
Farsaei warned that such hostile and provocative positions “entail international responsibility” and could carry consequences should Ukraine repeat them. He underscored that Ukraine’s tacit approval of Israel’s actions amounted to complicity in civilian casualties, a stance Tehran finds utterly unacceptable.
In response, Mezhev assured Iranian officials he would “promptly convey” the protest to his government in Kyiv. A Foreign Ministry statement noted that Ukraine’s comments risk “seriously undermining bilateral relations” and could provoke retaliatory measures if not retracted.
This diplomatic row highlights growing tensions in Tehran’s relations not only with Western capitals but also with former partners in Eastern Europe. Analysts suggest Tehran’s hard line aims to isolate Israel politically by dissuading even neutral or distant states from legitimizing its use of force. As Iran continues to press its narrative on the international stage, Ukraine now faces a choice: clarify its stance or risk further diplomatic fallout with Tehran.
