Grossi: IAEA Has Resumed Inspections in Iran

In an interview with Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), confirmed that the agency has resumed inspection activities in Iran.

However, Grossi emphasized that these inspections remain extremely limited, with the IAEA still lacking access to Iran’s key nuclear facilities.

His remarks come after Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI), stated earlier in December that no IAEA inspectors were currently present in the country. Speaking on the reconstruction of sites targeted in attacks, Eslami assured that Iran’s nuclear industry continues to fulfill its duties, and restoration efforts are ongoing.

The backdrop to these developments is a series of escalating tensions. On June 13, 2025, Israel launched an unprovoked attack on Iran while nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran were underway. The assault sparked a 12-day conflict, claiming at least 1,064 lives, including military leaders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.

The United States also entered the conflict, bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities in what critics described as a serious breach of international law.

In response, the Iranian Armed Forces struck strategic targets across occupied territories, as well as the Al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest U.S. military installation in West Asia.

By June 24, Iran’s successful retaliatory operations against both Israel and the United States effectively brought the aggression to a halt.
