Familiarity With Bayn Al-Tulū‘ayn And Its Practices!

When Is Bayn Al-Tulū‘ayn?
The term "Bayn Al-Tulū‘ayn," meaning "between two dawns," refers to the time interval between the true dawn (morning Adhan) and sunrise, which is also the time before the Fajr prayer becomes invalid. The significance of Bayn Al-Tulū‘ayn is so high that Islamic narrations consider sleeping during this period disliked (makruh). This text aims to define the term, explain its importance, and reveal its mysteries and virtues.

What Are the Recommended Acts (A‘māl) During Bayn Al-Tulū‘ayn?

The Holy Quran recommends glorifying God during this time with the phrase:
“And glorify the praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun.”
There are numerous narrations about worship during Bayn Al-Tulū‘ayn, some suggesting special prayers and supplications:

First Hadith from the Prophet (PBUH):
“Whoever sits in his prayer place from dawn until sunrise and continues his worship, God will protect him from the Hellfire.”

Second Hadith from the Prophet (PBUH):
Whoever recites these verses seven times in the morning will be protected from calamities that day:
"Indeed, Allah is the best guardian, and He is the most merciful of the merciful. Indeed, my protector is Allah, who has sent down the Book and He takes care of the righteous. But if they turn away, say: ‘Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. On Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.’”

Third Hadith from the Prophet (PBUH):
“Whoever wakes in the morning and does not remember four blessings of God, I fear these blessings will be taken away:

  • Praise be to Allah who made me know Himself and did not leave my heart blind,

  • Praise be to Allah who made me from the followers of Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family),

  • Praise be to Allah who placed my sustenance in His hands and did not put it in the hands of others,

  • Praise be to Allah who concealed my faults and sins and did not disgrace me before people.”

Narrations from Imam Ali (AS):

  • “Whoever recites Surahs Al-Tawhid, Al-Qadr, and Ayat Al-Kursi eleven times before sunrise will be protected from financial loss.”

  • “Remembrance of God after Fajr prayer until sunrise is more effective in attracting sustenance than a trade journey.”

Narrations from Imam Baqir (AS):

  • “Morning sleep is harmful and unlucky; it drives away sustenance, changes the color of the face to pale. God distributes sustenance during Bayn Al-Tulū‘ayn, so avoid sleeping at this time. Know that manna and quail were sent down to the Children of Israel at this hour.”

  • “Whoever seeks forgiveness seventy times after Fajr prayer, God will forgive him.”

  • “Whoever recites Surah Al-Qadr seven times after dawn will have seventy rows of angels send blessings upon him and pray for his mercy seventy times.”

In conclusion, all recommended prayers after Fajr can be considered acts of worship during Bayn Al-Tulū‘ayn.
