According to the Religion and Beliefs Service of Saed News, the Prayer of Lady Fatimah (peace be upon her) is a recommended (non-obligatory) prayer that Gabriel taught her. Religious sources consider this virtuous prayer very effective for resolving great difficulties. The Prayer of Lady Fatimah (peace be upon her) is one of the best ways for seeking help and obtaining one’s needs. This recommended prayer was taught by Gabriel to Lady Fatimah Zahra (peace be upon her). Many prayers are narrated under the name of the Prayer of Lady Fatimah (peace be upon her), and in this article, we mention some of them.
Importance of Lady Fatimah’s Prayer (peace be upon her):
A narration from Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) states that whenever a great difficulty arises, you pray two units (rak'ahs) of prayer, which is the prayer that Lady Zahra (peace be upon her) used to perform.
(Mustadrak al-Wasa'il, Al al-Bayt Institute, vol. 6, p. 302)
This prayer is also known as the Prayer of Awabin (the prayer of those who turn to God).
(Bihar al-Anwar, 1403 AH, vol. 88, p. 171)
According to Sheikh Abbas Qomi, this prayer was taught by Gabriel to Lady Zahra (peace be upon her).
(Mafatih al-Jinan, Uswah, p. 41)
Sheikh Abbas Qomi in Mafatih al-Jinan explains that Lady Zahra (peace be upon her) would perform a two-unit prayer in which, in the first unit, after Surah Al-Fatiha, she recited Surah Al-Qadr one hundred times, and in the second unit, after Al-Fatiha, she recited Surah Al-Tawhid one hundred times. After completing the prayer’s concluding salutation, she would recite the following supplication:
Glory be to the Lord of Honor, the Exalted and Lofty,
Glory be to the Lord of Majesty, the Magnificent and Great,
Glory be to the Lord of the Kingdom, the Proud and Eternal,
Glory be to Him Who wears the garment of joy and beauty,
Glory be to Him Who is cloaked with light and dignity,
Glory be to Him Who sees the footprints of the ant on the hard rock,
Glory be to Him Who sees the flight path of the birds in the air,
Glory be to Him Who is so and not otherwise; none else possesses such perfection.
(Mafatih al-Jinan, Uswah, p. 41)
According to Sayyid Ibn Tawus in Jamal al-Usbu', it is preferable to recite Lady Fatimah’s tasbihat (glorifications) after the prayer, followed by sending blessings on the Prophet (salawat) one hundred times.
(Jamal al-Usbu', p. 171)
The Prayer of Lady Fatimah (peace be upon her) is one of the best means for seeking help and getting one's needs fulfilled. This recommended prayer was taught by Gabriel to Lady Fatimah Zahra (peace be upon her). Several prayers have been narrated under her name, some of which are mentioned here.
Sheikh Tusi also states in Misbah al-Mutahajjid:
It is proper after the prayer to expose the knees and elbows, place all parts that touch the ground in prostration directly without any barrier, ask for one’s needs and pray, and during prostration say:
"O You who has no other Lord besides Him who is called upon, O You who has no god above Him who is feared,
O You who has no king beneath Him who is revered, O You who has no minister who is approached,
O You who has no veil behind which bribes are given, O You who has no gatekeeper guarding the veil,
O You whose generosity and bounty increase with many requests, and whose forgiveness and pardon increase with many sins,
Send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and do for me such and such."
(Note: Instead of “such and such,” mention your specific needs.)
(Misbah al-Mutahajjid, p. 301)
It is best to perform the Prayer of Lady Zahra (peace be upon her) on Fridays, but it is not restricted to Fridays.
A narration from Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) says that whenever you have an important need causing severe spiritual pressure, turn to Lady Fatimah (peace be upon her):
First, perform two units of prayer, then after the concluding salutation say "Allahu Akbar" (God is Greatest) three times, then recite Lady Fatimah’s tasbih, then prostrate and say one hundred times:
"O my Lady Fatimah, help me."
Then place the right side of your face on the ground and repeat the same one hundred times, then prostrate again and say it one hundred and ten times more, after which ask God for your needs, which He will fulfill.
(Sahifa Fatimiyya, pp. 207-208; Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 91, pp. 30-31)
Sheikh Tabarsi in Makarim al-Akhlaq narrates the actions after this prayer:
Go into prostration and say "O Fatimah" 100 times.
Place the left side of your face on the ground and say it 100 times.
Place the right side of your face on the ground and say it again.
Again, in prostration, say it 110 times.
Then recite the following prayer:
"O You who are a refuge from every fear and every fearful thing, I ask You by Your security from all things,
and by the fear of all things from You, to send blessings on Muhammad and to grant safety to myself, my family, my wealth, and my children,
so that I may not fear anyone nor be afraid of anything ever, for You are capable of all things."
In narrations, other prayers are also called Lady Fatimah’s prayer. Among them:
Sheikh Tusi and Sayyid Ibn Tawus narrate that Muhammad ibn Ali Halabi asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about the best practice for Friday.
Imam Sadiq replied:
"I do not know anyone greater than Lady Fatimah (peace be upon her) at the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) presence, nor do I know anything better than what the Prophet taught his daughter. He said: On Friday, perform ghusl (ritual bath) and offer four units of prayer with two salutations.
In the first unit, after Surah Al-Fatiha, recite Surah Al-Tawhid fifty times; in the second, after Al-Fatiha, recite Surah Al-Adiyat fifty times; in the third, after Al-Fatiha, recite Surah Az-Zalzalah fifty times; in the fourth, after Al-Fatiha, recite Surah An-Nasr (the last revealed surah) fifty times.
After finishing, recite this supplication:
"My God and my Master, whoever has prepared, labored, or readied himself for the delegation of a creature in hope of its support, benefits, attainments, rewards, and prizes, I turn to You.
O my God, my preparation and effort were in hope of Your benefits and kindness; do not disappoint me.
O You who never disappoints the one who asks, nor lessens the gift of the one who receives,
I have not brought any righteous deed beforehand nor sought intercession except through Muhammad and his purified family; send blessings upon them.
I come to You hoping for Your great forgiveness which You grant to sinners during their prostration toward the sacred places.
You are my Lord who returns blessings and I return with sins.
I ask You by the right of Muhammad and his pure family to forgive my great sin, for none forgives the great sin except the Great One. O Great, O Great..."
