SAEDNEWS: Iranian and Iraqi ministers discussed the exchange program for professors and students, and signed MOUs for strengthening cooperation in the fields of science and research.
Minister of Science, Research and Technology Hossein Simaei-Sarraf says the affection and friendship between the people of Iran and neighboring Iraq have created great potential for expanding scientific and cultural relations between the two nations.
Simaei-Sarraf made the remarks during his meeting with Iraq’s Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Hayder Abed Dhahad in Tehran on Saturday.
They discussed the exchange program for professors and students, the signing of memorandums of understanding, and implementing documents to strengthen scientific and academic cooperation.
Referring to new agreements to grant scholarships to Iraqi students and their enrolment in Iranian universities, Simaei-Sarraf asked Iraqi officials to take the necessary steps. “After holding Iraq Week last year, good progress has been made in implementing the agreements in the areas that were agreed upon, including the exchange of professors and students", he said.
For his part, Abed Dhahad commended joint research projects between the two countries, emphasizing that new memorandums of understanding on scholarships and professor exchanges will deepen bilateral relations. “One of our goals is for Iraqi students to study in the best universities in Iran,” he said.
Scientific and technological advances in Iran are an example of capabilities that can contribute to the scientific development of Iraq, he stressed.
The Iraqi minister also congratulated Iran on its victory in the 12-day Israeli-imposed war, expressing condolences for those who lost their lives in the Israeli aggression, especially the scientists. “The victory over the Zionist regime is a source and honor for Islamic governments and especially the Iraqi people," Abed Dhahad added.
