SAEDNEWS: The Threads app, an Instagram product, had a stormy start, quickly reaching 100 million installs. However, reports now indicate a downward trend in the app’s user base!
According to SAEDNEWS, CNBC reports that data from research company SensorTower shows that the number of active users on the fledgling Threads social network has decreased by 20% over the past five days. SimilarWeb, a trusted platform traffic analysis website, also told CNBC that daily active users of Threads decreased by 25% over three days (from July 7 to 10).
But this decline in daily active users was not entirely unexpected. Several analysts had predicted that this explosive growth would soon plateau after the platform's launch. Typically, many users install a new app out of curiosity at the beginning, to explore and test its features.
However, converting these early users into loyal, long-term users is much harder. Even if the app’s owner is Instagram, which has nearly 2 billion users worldwide. The second factor contributing to the decline in app users is the number of features it offers. Threads does not have enough new features compared to Twitter to create a distinct identity for its user base.
Now, Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has promised that they are working on the infrastructure to add more features to the app. But for now, Twitter remains the platform of choice for most social media users.
But it's not just the number of daily active users on Instagram’s Threads that’s declining. SimilarWeb also says that the amount of time users spend on the app has decreased, from 30 minutes to just 10 minutes. Additionally, the average time spent by users has dropped from 20 minutes to 8 minutes. Keep in mind that these statistics are only related to the Android version of Instagram's new social network.
In terms of user interface, Threads is seen as a copy of Twitter, lacking key features such as the follower feed, the edit button, and search functions.
Now, we wait to see if this downward trend will continue, leading to a major failure for Instagram’s owners, or if it is a temporary decline that will soon be followed by a rebound.
